Woman charged with embezzlement

DURHAM – Durham police have charged a Chapel Hill woman with embezzling from a local department store, according to warrants.

Meriem Bakour of 1749 Dobbins Drive, Apartment 1J in Chapel Hill has been charged with one count of embezzlement, the warrant stated. Bakour allegedly tried to appropriate $7,696 from Macy’s Inc. for her own use. The embezzlement took place between Aug. 5 and Nov. 30 of this year, according to the warrant.

Bakour was released on $1,500 secured bond. She is due in District Court today.

Chapel Hill man charged with assaulting female

DURHAM – A Chapel Hill man faces charges of assaulting a female.

Steven John Bear, of 1303 U.S. 15-501 North in Chapel Hill, has been charged with assaulting a female by pushing her and striking her with his fist, a Durham police warrant stated. Bear also is charged with assault by strangulation. The warrant alleges that Bear placed his hands around the victim’s neck and squeezed “to the point the victim felt she couldn’t breathe.”

The defendant was released on $2,500 secured bond and is due to appear in District Court today.

Man charged with assault

DURHAM – A Durham man has been charged with assaulting a woman.

Santonio Rodriguez Rochelle, of 408 Lynn Road in Durham, has been charged with assaulting a female by hitting her in the face with his hand, and hitting her with a belt, according to a warrant.

Rochelle was released on $1,000 secured bond and is due in District Court Jan. 10.
